VUmc is a medium-sized academic center in the Netherlands with a strong emphasis on translational medicine. Among the scientific focal points of the VUMC are antibiotic resistance, immunology and medicinal chemistry. The department of Medical Microbiology and Infection control has a (molecular) diagnostic/epidemiology group and a more fundamental medical microbiology group. The first group is focussed on the appearance, spread and control of antibiotic resistance, whereas the second group is focussed on mycobacterial pathogenesis, with an emphasis on zebrafish infection experiments. Expertise form both groups will be combined in this project.
